This bill modifies existing Oklahoma law regarding special elections for state questions, which are proposed laws or constitutional amendments that are voted on by the public. Specifically, it changes the timeframe for when these special elections must be held. For statewide special elections called by the Governor or Legislature, the election must now occur between 70 and 250 days after the election is called, rather than just at least 70 days out. Similarly, when the Secretary of State notifies the Governor about a properly filed initiative or referendum petition, the Governor must now set the election date between 70 and 250 days after that notification.
