This bill modifies the requirements for renewing a podiatry license in Oklahoma by adjusting the continuing education rules. Specifically, it changes the timeframe for accumulating the required sixty hours of continuing education to align with the license renewal deadline, rather than the period for which the license is to be issued. The bill also broadens the types of acceptable continuing education, now including education on medical marijuana approved by the Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners, and allows for up to six hours of credit for attending Board meetings and hearings. Additionally, it requires at least thirty of the sixty hours to be completed within Oklahoma, but provides an exception for podiatrists who practice exclusively outside the state, allowing them to substitute hours from the state(s) where they practice. The bill also clarifies that a podiatrist who does not hold a federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration number is exempt from the requirement of completing two hours of education in pain management or opioid use/addiction. This act is set to become effective on November 1, 2026.
