This bill expands membership in the Virginia Law Officers' Retirement System, which is a retirement plan for certain law enforcement and public safety personnel, to include additional categories of employees. Specifically, it adds full-time sworn members of the enforcement division of the Department of Motor Vehicles, probation officers employed by the Department of Corrections, full-time sworn law-enforcement officers employed by the Department of Corrections, and full-time sworn law-enforcement officers employed by the Department of Juvenile Justice to the definition of "employee" for the purposes of this retirement system. The bill also clarifies that these additions to membership and any associated enhanced retirement benefits will only apply to service earned on or after July 1, 2027, with the overall provisions of the act becoming effective on that date.
