This bill amends the Election Act to establish new requirements for individuals who circulate petitions, which are formal written requests signed by voters to propose legislation or recall an official. Before circulating any petitions, these individuals must file a notarized affidavit with the Secretary of State, confirming their name, date of birth, mailing address, and their felony conviction and pardon status. The bill also introduces a penalty for falsifying this affidavit, classifying it as a Class III felony, which is a serious crime. These changes are set to take effect on January 1, 2027, and will replace the previous versions of the relevant sections of the law.
