This bill modifies existing law regarding transitional housing for military members and veterans in Arizona, primarily by expanding the uses of the Military Transitional Housing Fund and establishing a new grant program. The Military Transitional Housing Fund, administered by the Arizona Department of Housing, will now allow monies to be used for project and construction planning for military transitional housing, in addition to previously allowed uses like building new housing and rehabilitating existing units for veterans. The fund can accept designated federal monies, including those from affordable housing legislation, and will be administered by veteran-managed nonprofit organizations. A new Military Transitional Housing Grant Program is created to provide grants to veteran-owned and veteran-operated nonprofit organizations in Arizona for the construction of military transitional housing, veteran housing, affordable housing, or homeless housing. To support this new program, $7,000,000 is appropriated from the state general fund for fiscal year 2026-2027.
