This bill establishes the Arizona Veteran Housing and Reintegration Grant Program, which will provide grants to counties and tribal governments to help veterans by speeding up zoning approvals, managing land for housing, supporting non-profits, assisting in building veteran housing, reducing costs associated with jails and emergency services, increasing access to federal housing funds, and boosting local economies. The Arizona Department of Housing will administer this program, and recipients must provide a local match of funds, with a lower percentage required for rural areas and tribal governments. A dedicated fund, the Arizona Veteran Housing and Reintegration Fund, will be created and supported by legislative appropriations, federal grants, and private donations, with an initial appropriation of $10,000,000 from the state general fund for fiscal year 2026-2027, and this appropriation will not lapse at the end of the fiscal year. The department is also directed to actively seek federal funding from various programs, including those from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
