This bill, amending Michigan's "Food law," introduces new requirements for mobile food establishments, commonly known as food trucks, by mandating annual fire inspections and establishing a system for tracking these inspections. Specifically, it requires food trucks to undergo an annual inspection by a certified fire inspector, defined as an individual with a fire inspector certificate, and also after significant modifications to their fire protection, ventilation, cooking equipment, or safety features. Following an inspection, a report must be provided to the food truck and the relevant health department, and the food truck must keep a copy of this report for one year, with the inspection itself being valid for one year unless additional inspections are legally required. The bill also mandates the creation of a public electronic database by the department to record all fire inspections conducted on mobile food establishments, which local health departments may be required to update, and a fire inspector will issue a decal with a QR code linking to this database after a successful inspection. A fee of up to $200.00 may be charged for these inspections, though additional inspections for ongoing compliance or safety concerns will be free of charge.
