This resolution, passed by both houses of the Alabama Legislature, highly commends Mountain Brook Police Officer Richard Knecht for his dedicated service and devotion to school safety, extending heartfelt gratitude, respect, and best wishes for his future. Officer Knecht, who serves as the School Resource Officer (SRO) at Mountain Brook High School, was recently honored with the Safe Schools Leadership Award at The Alabama Association of School Resource Officers (TAASRO) Conference for his outstanding commitment to student safety. He also holds the elite designation of TAASRO School Safety Specialist, a recognition earned through extensive training and experience. Officer Knecht has been a police officer since 2000 and an SRO for over eight years, where he is highly regarded by students. He has also served on the TAASRO Board and was part of the Mountain Brook Police Department team that received the SRO Team Award. Furthermore, Officer Knecht initiated the creation of an MBPD Autism Awareness patch to raise funds and awareness for the Autism Society of Alabama, demonstrating his commitment beyond his official duties.
