This bill, titled "Contraception; cost sharing prohibition," aims to ensure that health insurance plans in Arizona cover various forms of contraception without imposing additional costs on the insured. Specifically, it mandates that insurance policies providing prescription drug coverage must cover any FDA-approved contraceptive drug or device, including oral contraceptives, implants, injections, intrauterine devices (IUDs), and prescription barrier methods, as well as male and female sterilization procedures, without imposing deductibles, copayments, or other cost-sharing measures that are greater than those for other drugs on the same formulary tier. The bill also requires coverage for outpatient contraceptive services, which include consultations, examinations, and medical services related to the use of FDA-approved prescription contraceptives to prevent unintended pregnancies. These provisions apply to contracts issued by hospital service corporations, medical service corporations, health care services organizations, and group disability policies, but generally exclude individual, nongroup policies. The bill also removes previous exemptions that allowed religiously affiliated employers to opt out of providing contraception coverage, thereby strengthening access to these services for all insured individuals.
