This bill amends the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) to include the diagnosis and treatment of mild obstructive sleep apnea as a covered medical service. This coverage will encompass patient screening and the use of a NEUROMUSCULAR TONGUE MUSCLE STIMULATOR, which is a removable intraoral mouthpiece that uses electrodes to deliver neuromuscular stimulation to the tongue. The goal of this device is to reduce snoring and obstructive sleep apnea by strengthening tongue muscles, and it is authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a prescription device provided through the durable medical equipment benefit.
