This bill, titled the "Arizona Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act," allows the Arizona Attorney General to investigate organizations within the state believed to be affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, a group founded in 1928 with a specific ideology, and to designate them as terrorist organizations. Before making such a designation, the Attorney General must provide the organization with a written notice of the proposed designation, publish a public notice explaining the reasons, and offer the organization an opportunity to respond in writing and appear before an independent review board. The Attorney General can use federal designations made by the U.S. Secretary of State as evidence. Once designated, these organizations and individuals acting on their behalf are prohibited from operating, soliciting funds, recruiting members, entering into contracts, or receiving public funds within Arizona, and existing state and local government contracts or licenses with them must be terminated. Violations can result in civil penalties of up to $50,000, and the Attorney General can initiate seizure of state-registered assets belonging to designated organizations. Knowingly aiding, funding, or concealing a designated organization is a felony. The Attorney General is also required to submit an annual report detailing designations and actions taken.
