This bill establishes a program requiring the office of the state fire marshal, working with the division of motor vehicles, to create and manage a database of electric and hybrid motor vehicles that are powered by high-voltage lithium-ion batteries. This database will allow fire departments and fire districts to be notified of the locations of these vehicles, which is important for emergency response because these types of vehicles can pose unique fire risks. The office of the state fire marshal will provide the division of motor vehicles with a contact list of all fire departments and districts, and the division will then share specific vehicle registration information, including the make, model, year, and the address where the vehicle is located, with the relevant local fire department or fire district twice a year, by January 1st and July 1st. This act will become effective six months after it is passed.
