AI Summary

This bill, known as the "Nourish to Flourish Act," mandates that starting in the 2026-2027 school year, all public schools in Georgia must provide students with a daily lunch period that includes at least 30 consecutive minutes of "seated time," which is defined as the actual time a student spends eating their meal after being seated, excluding time spent waiting in line. Local school boards and governing bodies will be required to create written policies to ensure this minimum seated time, addressing scheduling, staffing for lunch personnel, and strategies to reduce wait times for meals. The State Board of Education will develop rules for annual reporting from school systems on their policies and lunch schedules, and will also be authorized to provide grants to schools that need additional funding to implement these requirements, beyond existing funding.
