This bill expands access to California's state parks by requiring the Department of Parks and Recreation to issue a special pass to eligible Gold Star Family members, who are defined as residents of the state eligible to receive a gold star lapel button, a symbol of remembrance for families who have lost a service member in the line of duty. This pass will grant them free use of all facilities within the state park system, including boat launching facilities, similar to passes already provided to certain disabled veterans or recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor. The department will be responsible for establishing the necessary regulations to implement this provision.
