This bill, known as the "ICE Protection Act of 2026," amends Title 18 of the United States Code to enhance penalties for individuals who assault federal law enforcement officers, specifically U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, with a motor vehicle. The existing law, Section 111, already addresses assaults on federal officers, but this bill introduces stricter sentencing guidelines when a motor vehicle is used as a deadly or dangerous weapon. If an assault on an ICE agent or other federal law enforcement officer involves a motor vehicle and results in bodily injury, the offender faces a minimum of 5 years in prison; if it causes substantial bodily injury, the minimum sentence increases to 7 years; and for serious bodily injury, the minimum is 10 years. These enhanced penalties apply even if the weapon is intended to cause harm but fails due to a defect.
