This bill creates a new category of reserve officers within the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources' Enforcement Officers' Reserve Unit, called "Special Need Events Marine Patrol Reserve Officers," to address situations where there is a critical shortage of manpower. These specially designated reserve officers will be eligible to receive payment for their work during these "special need events," which are defined as events with a critical shortage of manpower as determined by the Chief of Marine Patrol. To qualify for these paid positions, reserve officers must be in good standing and have either successfully completed a board-certified law enforcement training program (part-time or full-time) or completed an academy in another state recognized by the state's Board on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Training. This provision allows for paid reserve officers to be utilized during specific, critical events, deviating from the general rule that reserve officers serve without pay.
