This bill amends Mississippi Code Section 97-3-19 to include deaths resulting from domestic violence as capital murder. Specifically, it adds "domestic violence as provided in Section 97-3-7" to the list of felonies during the commission of which a killing, even without intent to kill, constitutes capital murder. This means that if someone commits domestic violence as defined by Section 97-3-7 and a death occurs during that act, it will now be classified as capital murder, a more serious charge than murder, carrying potentially harsher penalties. The bill is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
