This bill modifies existing Utah law to expand the scope of criminal activities that a multi-agency joint strike force can combat and to adjust reporting requirements for certain data. Specifically, it adds metal theft, including catalytic converter thefts, and the purchase of stolen goods for resale to the list of criminal activities the joint strike force, coordinated by the Office of the Attorney General and the Department of Public Safety, will focus on, alongside organized retail crime, antitrust violations, intellectual property rights violations, and gambling. The bill also updates reporting requirements by moving the annual report on catalytic converter thefts and arrests from the joint strike force directly to the State Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice, and it adds catalytic converter thefts and arrests to the list of data that must be reported to the public safety portal, a central repository for criminal justice information accessible to all state criminal justice agencies. This bill is set to take effect on May 6, 2026.
