This bill establishes a program requiring the office of the state fire marshal, working with the division of motor vehicles, to create and manage a database of electric and hybrid motor vehicles that use high-voltage lithium-ion batteries. This database will allow fire departments and fire districts to be notified of the locations of these vehicles, which is important for emergency response due to the unique challenges of fighting fires involving these types of vehicles. The division of motor vehicles will receive a contact list of all fire departments and districts and will then share specific vehicle registration information, a description of the vehicle (make, model, and year), and the address where the vehicle is located directly with the local fire department or district that serves that area. This information transfer will occur twice a year, by January 1st and July 1st, and the act will become effective six months after it is passed.
