This bill establishes a new "retirement status license" for individuals who previously held a professional license issued by the Division of Professional Regulation (a state agency responsible for licensing various occupations and trades) and are at least sixty-five years old. To obtain this retirement status, retirees must surrender their original license to the division, complete a form declaring their retired status and agreeing not to practice their former profession, and pay a twenty-dollar fee. While holding this retirement license, they are prohibited from practicing their former occupation or trade, and violations will be treated the same as practicing without a license. The original license will be returned, stamped "Retired." Retirees can later reactivate their original license by submitting a form, paying the current annual fee, and meeting any recent continuing education or training requirements as if they had remained actively licensed. The bill also allows the division to grant retirement status licenses in exceptional cases even if the age requirement isn't met, and it will take effect on January 1, 2027.
