This bill amends Section 37-21-7 of the Mississippi Code of 1972 to increase the minimum annual salary for assistant teachers, who assist licensed teachers in instructing basic skills to students in kindergarten through third grade, from $17,000.00 to $20,000.00, effective for the 2026-2027 school year and subsequent years. The bill also maintains provisions for additional salary increases based on state revenue growth and allows school districts to use assistant teacher funding to hire licensed teachers if it reduces the teacher-to-student ratio in those grades, with the intent that existing assistant teachers are not dismissed for this purpose.
