This bill amends Mississippi Code Section 41-29-113 to add kratom, specifically its active compounds mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, to Schedule I of the Uniform Controlled Substances Act. Schedule I is a classification for drugs that have a high potential for abuse, no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States, and a lack of accepted safety for use under medical supervision. By adding kratom to this schedule, the state of Mississippi will regulate it similarly to other highly controlled substances, making its possession, manufacture, and distribution illegal. This change will take effect on July 1, 2026.
