This bill expands eligibility for the Mississippi Dyslexia Therapy Scholarship for Students with Dyslexia Program to include students from kindergarten through 12th grade, whereas previously it only covered students from first grade. The program provides scholarships for students diagnosed with dyslexia to attend a public school other than their assigned one or a private school of their choice to receive specialized dyslexia therapy. The bill also updates the screening requirements for dyslexia, mandating that students be screened in the fall of kindergarten and the fall of first grade, rather than the spring of kindergarten and the fall of first grade, to identify potential learning disabilities earlier.
