AI Summary

This bill allows individuals who are already receiving retirement benefits from the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) to also receive compensation while serving as a member of the Mississippi Legislature, provided they meet certain conditions. Specifically, retired PERS members elected to the legislature must have been retired for at least 90 days before taking office. Alternatively, current legislators eligible for PERS retirement can choose to receive their retirement allowance while serving. Those who opt to receive both their retirement allowance and legislative compensation will not accrue further service credit in the retirement system or the Supplemental Legislative Retirement Plan. They will receive either 50% of the regular and extraordinary session compensation for serving no more than half the normal working days, or compensation up to 25% of their average salary with no limit on service days. This legislation also makes conforming changes to other sections of Mississippi law related to retirement and legislative compensation.
