This bill mandates that most health insurance policies and contracts in Mississippi, including those for state and school employees, must cover Cologuard colorectal cancer screening tests starting July 1, 2026. This means that individuals will not have to pay more in deductibles or coinsurance for Cologuard than they would for similar screenings, and reimbursement rates for providers must be at least as good as those under Medicare. The bill also clarifies that health plans are not required to refer patients to out-of-network providers for this screening unless no in-network provider is available, and if a referral to an out-of-network provider is made, the patient will not incur additional costs beyond what they would pay for in-network services.
