This bill expands the authority of the Warwick Municipal Court by granting it original jurisdiction over violations of zoning ordinances, historical area zoning, minimum housing standards, housing maintenance and occupancy codes, subdivision of land regulations, and the state building code and its associated regulations. It also allows the court to hear cases involving violations of any local Warwick ordinances or regulations enacted under these chapters. However, the bill removes the court's ability to sentence individuals to jail time, though it still allows for fines of up to $500 per violation and other equitable remedies like ordering repairs or demolition of non-compliant dwellings. The bill also clarifies that appeals from judgments in these matters can be made to the superior court for a new trial.
