Bill Summary

Amends the Assisted Living and Shared Housing Act. In provisions concerning assessment and service plan requirements, provides that a comprehensive assessment shall be completed by a physician, a physician assistant, or an advanced practice registered nurse (instead of only a physician). In provisions concerning Alzheimer and dementia programs, provides that an assessment must be approved by a resident's physician, physician assistant, or advanced practice registered nurse (instead of only a physician) and shall occur prior to acceptance for residency, annually, and at such time that a change in the resident's condition is identified by a family member, staff of the establishment, or the resident's physician, physician assistant, or advanced practice registered nurse (instead of only a physician).

AI Summary

This bill amends the Assisted Living and Shared Housing Act to expand the types of healthcare professionals who can conduct comprehensive assessments for residents. Previously, only a physician could complete these assessments, but now physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) will also be authorized to perform them. This change applies to both general assessments for service plans and specific assessments for Alzheimer's and dementia programs. For these specialized programs, the assessment must also be approved by a physician, physician assistant, or APRN and conducted before a resident is accepted, annually, and whenever a change in the resident's condition is noted by family, staff, or a healthcare professional. This aims to streamline the assessment process and allow for more timely evaluations by a broader range of qualified medical professionals.
