This bill, known as the "Compassionate Access to Medical Cannabis Act" or "Ryan's Law," allows terminally ill patients and qualifying patients over sixty-five years old with chronic diseases to use medical cannabis within specified health care facilities, such as hospitals and skilled nursing facilities, under certain conditions, with enforcement by the Department of Health. The bill defines various types of health care facilities and clarifies that medical cannabis use is not permitted in general acute care hospitals for patients with chronic diseases unless they are also terminally ill, and it prohibits smoking or vaping medical cannabis within these facilities, requiring patients or their caregivers to manage and store it securely. Furthermore, it amends existing law to clarify that the authorization for medical cannabis use does not apply to certain public places, but allows for the transportation of medical cannabis in sealed containers in public. This Act is set to take effect on July 1, 3000.
