This bill, effective January 1, 2027, prohibits the manufacture, sale, offer for sale, or distribution within the state of any food containing specific petroleum-based synthetic food dyes and synthetic chemical additives, including Azodicarbonamide, FD&C Blue No. 1 and No. 2, Citrus Red No. 2, FD&C Green No. 3, Orange B, Potassium Bromate, FD&C Red No. 3, FD&C Red No. 30, FD&C Red No. 40, FD&C Yellow No. 5, and FD&C Yellow No. 6. The bill is a response to scientific findings linking these substances to adverse health effects and aligns with a national initiative to phase out such dyes. It also amends existing law to include violations of this new prohibition under the general prohibited acts related to food safety.
