This bill aims to increase voter registration among eligible high school students by integrating voter registration into the existing enrollment or course registration process at public high schools. When students apply for enrollment or courses, they will be presented with a voter registration or pre-registration option and must indicate their choice. If a student is already registered to vote, they will be given the opportunity to update their name and address unless they choose not to. The Department of Education will then be authorized to collect and transmit the necessary information to county clerks, election officials, and the online voter registration system to register the student or update their existing registration, provided the student elected to do so and is a U.S. citizen. County clerks will review these applications and register eligible voters or make approved changes. This process also ensures that databases maintained by counties and the Department of Education will be accessible to election officials and the online voter registration system for efficient processing and to maintain the integrity of voter registration.
