This bill, known as the Mississippi National Guard Servicemembers Medical Readiness Act, establishes the Mississippi National Guard Tricare Premium Reimbursement Program, which will be managed by the Mississippi Military Department. This program aims to provide financial assistance by awarding grants to eligible members of the Mississippi National Guard to reimburse them for the cost of premiums they pay for individual coverage through the Tricare Reserve Select program, which provides health insurance, and/or the Tricare Dental Program. To be eligible, a member must be part of the Mississippi National Guard, qualify for Tricare Reserve Select and/or Tricare dental coverage, and not already have health or dental insurance through a civilian employer. The Mississippi Military Department will be responsible for creating the rules and procedures for applications, verifying eligibility, distributing funds, and tracking the program's impact on military readiness, with funding dependent on annual legislative appropriations. Additionally, the Adjutant General of Mississippi will be required to submit an annual report to the Legislature detailing the program's effectiveness, including participant numbers, its effect on medical readiness, and any suggestions for improvement. This act will become effective on July 1, 2026.
