This bill establishes a "space commission working group" composed of five members appointed by the governor, lieutenant governor, and speaker of the house, prioritizing individuals with experience in aerospace, aviation, economic development, and related research. This working group is tasked with studying the feasibility of creating a statewide authority for the aerospace industry, identifying key stakeholders, developing a strategic plan for such a commission including its authority and responsibilities, and designing its board of directors. The working group must submit a final report of its findings and recommendations to the legislature's interim committee on economic development by October 1, 2026. Members will receive per diem and mileage for their service, and the economic development department will provide staff and administrative support, with an appropriation of $200,000 from the general fund to support the working group's efforts in fiscal year 2027.
