Bill Summary

AN ACT To amend Article 7 of Chapter 4 of Title 49 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to medical assistance generally, so as to transfer Medicaid coverage for foster children from managed care to fee-for-service; to provide for definitions; to provide for submission of state plan amendments if necessary; to provide for automatic repeal; to provide for related matters; to provide for an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

AI Summary

This bill will transfer Medicaid coverage for foster children from managed care, which is provided through agreements with care management organizations, to the fee-for-service Medicaid program, where services are paid for individually. A "foster child" is defined as someone under 18 in the foster care system or under 26 who was in foster care and received Medicaid on their 18th birthday. This change will take effect when the current contract with a care management organization expires or is renewed, or sooner if the contract allows, and the state will submit necessary changes to federal health authorities. This provision is temporary and will be repealed on December 31, 2028.
