This resolution establishes the House Study Committee on Raising the Minimum Wage in Georgia, a group of five members of the House of Representatives appointed by the Speaker, who will also designate a chairperson. The committee's purpose is to study the current minimum wage situation in Georgia, which has been $5.15 per hour since 1997 and is lower than the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour, and to explore the potential benefits and challenges of raising it for workers, employers, and the state's economy. The committee will investigate what minimum wage would be most effective and beneficial for all Georgians, and it is empowered to hold meetings, gather information, and make recommendations for action or legislation. The committee members will receive allowances for their service, funded by the House of Representatives, and are limited to receiving these allowances for no more than five days unless otherwise authorized. The committee is scheduled to be abolished on December 1, 2026, and will submit a report of its findings and recommendations, if any, to the Clerk of the House of Representatives, provided the report is approved by a majority vote of a quorum.
