This bill mandates the creation of a centralized, statewide database called the California Transit Stop Registry by December 31, 2026, which will standardize information about transit stops, including their names, locations, available amenities, and unique identifiers. By June 1, 2027, transit operators that receive funding under the Transportation Development Act (also known as the Mills-Alquist-Deddeh Act), which provides funding for public transit, will be required to ensure their transit stop names and locations match the registry and to use the registry's unique identifiers when publishing any transit stop data, such as for trip-planning apps or open data initiatives. This requirement is considered a state-mandated local program, and if the Commission on State Mandates determines it incurs costs for local agencies, the state will reimburse them.
