This bill requires county superintendents to allow dependent children of active service members, who are relocating to Maryland on official orders, to "advance enroll" in schools before physically moving to the county, meaning they can register and secure a spot in a school remotely without needing to be a resident at the time of registration. The remote registration process must allow the service member or other parent/guardian to indicate if the child has an "individualized education program" (IEP) or a "504 plan" from their previous state, which are plans designed to provide special education and related services to students with disabilities, ensuring these children receive appropriate education without delay. Additionally, the Secretary of Veterans and Military Families will be responsible for publishing and maintaining information about these advance enrollment procedures and any available assistance for military families, including those with children with disabilities.
