This bill directs the Virginia Board of Pharmacy to create regulations for psilocybin, a substance found in certain mushrooms, once the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves a specific formulation of it for use by a healthcare professional in a healthcare setting. Following the FDA's approval and after the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) officially changes psilocybin's classification as a controlled substance, the Board of Pharmacy must reschedule it accordingly at its next quarterly meeting, provided 30 days have passed since the federal scheduling change was published. This process will allow for the legal prescribing, dispensing, possession, and use of these FDA-approved psilocybin formulations in Virginia.
