Bill Summary

Local correctional facilities; reimbursements for housing convicted state felons. Provides that, notwithstanding the quarterly installment payments the Compensation Board is required to provide for reimbursements to localities, the Compensation Board shall ensure that it provides reimbursement to localities for the entirety of the costs incurred by such locality arising from housing convicted state felons in any local or regional correctional facility.

AI Summary

This bill amends a Virginia law concerning how the Compensation Board reimburses local correctional facilities for housing convicted state felons. Currently, these reimbursements are typically made in quarterly installments. However, this bill mandates that, regardless of the existing quarterly payment schedule, the Compensation Board must ensure that localities are fully reimbursed for all costs they incur when housing individuals convicted of state felonies in local or regional jails. This change aims to guarantee that local governments are not left to cover these expenses themselves.
