This bill modifies the reporting requirements for large campaign contributions in Virginia, specifically concerning contributions received close to election day. Previously, any single contribution of $5,000 or more for a statewide office, $1,000 or more for the General Assembly, or $500 or more for any other office, received within the 24 hours before an election, had to be reported by 11:59 p.m. on the day before the election. This bill changes that deadline, stating that contributions received at 5:00 p.m. or later on the day prior to the election must now be reported by 12:00 p.m. on election day itself, while contributions received before 5:00 p.m. on the day prior to the election still need to be reported by 11:59 p.m. on that preceding day. The bill also clarifies that these reporting requirements apply to candidates nominated by methods other than primaries, such as conventions, and to individuals who are the candidate on the statement of organization for multiple campaign committees. The changes are set to take effect on July 1, 2027.
