AI Summary

This bill establishes a Tribal Medicaid Advisory Group, composed of representatives from the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS), the Indian Health Service, and each federally recognized tribe with a tribal health program, to collaborate on plan amendments, waiver requests, and policies affecting tribal health programs at least 60 days before public comment, and on a tribal health program billing manual, with the group meeting quarterly in person. Additionally, DMAS is required to recognize the eligibility of any tribal health program to be a provider in the state plan, consult with these programs at least 60 days before taking any adverse action like suspending payments or initiating investigations, and maintain ongoing consultation with federally recognized tribes and tribal health programs to address the needs of both state and tribal governments. These changes are recommended by the Commission on Updating Virginia Law to Reflect Federal Recognition of Virginia Tribes, and the bill defines "federally recognized tribe," "tribal health program," and "tribal organization" for clarity.
