This bill amends West Virginia law to prohibit individuals required to register as sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of any school, park, or playground, with violations being a felony punishable by two to ten years in prison. The bill also makes a minor technical change to the existing law regarding the annual fee for sex offender registration, changing the word "ten" to the numeral "10" for the number of days a registrant must provide proof of payment to the State Police. This addition of a residency restriction aims to further protect children by keeping registered sex offenders at a greater distance from places frequented by them.
