This bill establishes a Law Enforcement Supplemental Pay Program, to be managed by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, which will provide an additional $2,000 per year to eligible sworn, certified law enforcement officers employed by municipalities or counties. To qualify, an officer must devote their full working time to law enforcement and have completed or will complete five years of service as a sworn, certified law enforcement officer, with prior service in Mississippi counting towards this requirement. This supplemental pay is intended to be an addition to an officer's existing compensation and cannot be used to reduce their pay from other sources. The Department of Public Safety will be responsible for creating any necessary rules and regulations to implement this program, which will take effect on July 1, 2026.
