This bill establishes the Mississippi Youth and Family Systems Coordination Task Force, a statewide advisory group tasked with developing coordinated, research-based strategies to improve the juvenile justice and behavioral health systems for young people. The task force will consist of 24 members, with at least half being youth or individuals with lived experience in these systems, appointed by the Speaker of the House, Lieutenant Governor, and Governor, and will include representatives from agencies involved with youth services. Its purpose is to strengthen prevention, diversion, and treatment responses to enhance youth outcomes and public safety without altering the existing legal authority of Youth Courts or state agencies. The task force will meet monthly, elect co-chairs (one of whom must be a youth or lived-experience member), and receive administrative support from the Department of Mental Health. It is required to submit an annual report to the Governor and Legislature starting in December 2027.
