It also updates the definition of telemedicine to encompass the practice of medicine by a licensed physician at a distant location to a patient at an originating site using secure communication systems, and crucially, it authorizes physicians practicing obesity medicine to prescribe certain legend drugs, including GLP-1 therapeutics (a class of drugs often used for weight management), to patients via telemedicine, provided they follow specific conditions such as obtaining sufficient medical history, conducting periodic reassessments, and documenting medical necessity. The bill also directs the State Board of Medical Licensure to create necessary rules to implement these changes, with the act taking effect on July 1, 2026.
