This bill authorizes airport authorities in Mississippi to take possession of and dispose of abandoned motor vehicles left on airport property, providing a clear process for handling these vehicles. Specifically, airport authorities must make reasonable efforts to identify the last registered owner and any lienholders, and then send them a certified letter detailing the vehicle, the charges owed, and a 90-day deadline to claim it. If the owner or lienholder cannot be located, or if the vehicle is not claimed within the specified time, the airport authority can then sell the vehicle at public auction, dispose of it in a commercially reasonable way, or keep it for official airport use. Any proceeds from a sale will first cover towing, storage, and notice costs, with any remaining balance held for the owner for 90 days before being deposited into the airport authority's general fund. This new authority is in addition to any other legal options airport authorities already have for dealing with abandoned vehicles.
