AI Summary

This bill establishes the "Artificial Intelligence in Education Task Force Act" to explore how artificial intelligence (AI), which refers to computer systems that can perform tasks typically requiring human intelligence, can be used in K-12 education. The task force, chaired by the State Superintendent of Education and composed of twelve members with expertise in education, technology, AI, ethics, data privacy, and policy, will evaluate AI's potential applications, assess ethical and privacy concerns, and develop policy recommendations for its responsible and effective use by students and educators. These recommendations will cover areas like academic integrity, acceptable AI use, data privacy, and parent access to information entered into AI systems. The task force will also suggest ways to integrate AI into educational standards and curricula, train educators on AI tools, monitor AI's impact on learning, and propose procurement guidelines for AI software to protect students and data. Furthermore, it will identify strategies to foster collaboration across educational institutions and industry to prepare students for AI-related careers and promote equitable access to AI resources. The task force will meet at least four times between September and December 2026, submit interim reports by November 15, 2026, and a final report with its findings and recommendations by December 15, 2026, after which it will be dissolved on January 1, 2027.
