AI Summary

This bill modifies provisions related to limited medical licenses in Mississippi, aiming to increase access to healthcare in underserved areas and provide pathways for physicians. It expands the duration a limited institutional license for foreign medical graduates working in state institutions can be held from five to eight years, and allows the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure (board) to issue new types of limited licenses. One new license is for internationally trained physicians (ITPs) who have an offer of employment in Mississippi and meet specific criteria, including practicing in rural or medically underserved areas with a physician shortage. Another new license is for U.S. medical school graduates who initially fail to match with a residency program; these "medical graduates" (MGs) must practice in counties with populations under 50,000, enter into a supervisory agreement with a licensed physician, and disclose their limited status to patients. The bill also sets requirements for these new licenses, including educational qualifications, English proficiency, and practice limitations, and outlines conditions under which they can be renewed or converted to full, unrestricted licenses.
