Specifically, this bill changes the law to mandate that a nonprofit corporation in Madison County seeking to construct, expand, or convert beds for such a program, which is defined as a facility under Section 41-7-173(h)(viii) of the Mississippi Code, must obtain a CON. The bill increases the number of beds that can be authorized under this provision from twenty to forty and clarifies that these beds will not be prohibited from participating in the Medicaid program, which is a government health insurance program for low-income individuals. The changes are set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
