This bill directs the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) to conduct a comprehensive study focused on preventing and reducing amputations that result from diabetes and its related complications. The study will examine the current rate of these amputations in Mississippi, the financial burden they place on the state, and identify effective, evidence-based methods for prevention, including early detection and screening. It will also explore ways to increase access to services that can save limbs, such as specialized care teams, wound treatment, foot care (podiatry), and patient education, as well as potential collaborations with private entities to lower amputation rates. To aid in this effort, the Executive Director of the MSDH will assemble a group of experts and interested parties. The MSDH is required to present a report detailing the study's findings and offering recommendations to specific legislative committees by December 1, 2026.
