This bill revises how the Board of Trustees for the Mississippi Department of Archives and History is structured and how its members are appointed. Currently, the board has nine trustees, and the board itself fills any vacancies. However, starting July 1, 2026, the board will still have nine trustees, but their selection process will change significantly: eight trustees will be appointed by the Governor, with the Senate's approval, representing each of the four congressional districts with two trustees from each, and one trustee will be selected from the state at large. The initial appointments after July 1, 2026, will have staggered terms ranging from one to five years, while subsequent appointments and all trustees serving on the board on that date will serve six-year terms. The bill also clarifies that five members will constitute a quorum for board meetings and that trustees will be reimbursed for necessary expenses but will not receive a salary.
